Im going to have to break down and start riding alone...
What do people do when they ride alone (at their barn, in a ring) to make things slightly more safer?

It's rare that I don't ride alone. Just use your common sense and don't do anything outside of your riding abilities. Example: don't try going over jumps if you've never jumped before, etc...

Oh, and always keep your cell phone with you. Keep it on silent if you're worried about your horse spooking, but keep it on and on you. Never know what can happen, so it's good to have contact if needed.

i always test their mood. you know if its a mare she may be moody  but as for me i get nervous myself i always see if they are in a good lovey mood and wear a helmet. i start out slow and see how they react. thats what i do any way. i also keep a phone on me too.

I don't do anything different in the arena. The BO has a living room view of the arena lol When I go out on trails I have my phone in my pocket on vibrate.

    Helmet for starters!
I ride by myself alot. I get dropped off by my mom so she knows im riding. If Kinta is feeling extra crazy i'll usualy lunge her. When riding and im completly by myself i dont do anything crazy like jumping, or cantering bareback or such. At least not right now because im not that great.

Just only do what you feel safe doing. And I like to make sure that someone knows im going riding incase something happens and no one hears from you, they know where to look firsth. I like to have my cell with me to. I usualy carry it in my bra as it seems to fall out of my pockets. That way I can call if i really need to (Like if i fell, and cant move to well or shouldnt move a whole lot)

I have also found, that if i'm wearing 1/2 chaps i put my phone down in my half chaps on the outside of my leg~ i know sometimes jeans can be hard to get a cell phone out of, so i always leave mine in my 1/2 chaps- Just make sure it can't slide around to the inside of your leg- mine normaly stays where ever i put it fine. I use to alawys do this when I was trailriding.

I only trail ride, so if I'm riding I'm out not in an arena. I won't go if the horse seems particularly hot or spooky that day. Otherwise, always a helmet and my cell phone in an easy to access place and I make sure someone knows I'm going riding and what my approx plan is. Usually this means I'll tell my husband what trails I plan to ride and about how long I plan to be out and then I check in with him when I get back to the barn to let him know I'm in.

When i go out riding, i ALWAYS have my cell in a case around my neck, before i head out i always let someone know where i am like if i am going to be riding just around the barn, heading out on this trail and what not... And i take a horse i can trust. Im not going to go out alone on a horse thats never seen a trail..
