So lame, I know.... but the original Steel Magnolias is one of my favorite movies. It always makes me cry. You know the part after the daughter's funeral when the mom is on saying she could run a marathon, but her daughter never could? Gets me every time. Then two seconds later I'm laughing when she wants to hit something and Oiser is offered up. I think I know every line by heart. How can you not love such a great cast? Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Darryl Hannah, Shirley McLaine.... Anyway I was flipping through the channels and saw that it was on, so I clicked on it.... but it was a remake! Huh? How could anything compare to the original? I know it was a play first, but I never saw the onstage version. I tried to watch the 2012 remake version with Queen Latifah, and I just couldn't. I kept hearing the voices and lines and picturing Shirley McLaine and Olympia Dukakis. I kept picturing Roberts' thousand watt smile. The remake made me sad. I'm so lame..... I didn't like the Parent Trap remake with Lindsey Lohan either. She just doesn't hold a candle to Hayley Mills.
