I'm glad you feel comfortable saying something to them, When damage occurs or waste occurs in the barn, that cost often gets spread out to all the boarders.

I got after a friend once for riding her horse up around the BO's house while they were out of town. I told her it was rude and disrespectful. This woman was 40 years old, you'd think she would know better :(

Hopefully the BO didn't have an in-ground sprinkler system! Thank you for asking your friend to be respectful of her host.

Where I'm from its pretty much unheard of for the BO to provide the food or bedding so that expense is on the agisters. But when I say water is expensive, one water bill here was $3000. That does include the 4 girls who rent out the house, but that's still a lot mostly due to people over washing their horses and not turning taps off properly. Our agistment fee is basically for property maintenance, water, and to pay for a stable hand to feed and turn the horses out in the morning.

I don't doubt that it would be easy to have a $3000 water bill.... it adds up quickly when the water is just allowed to run.

I think an honest attempt to be fair goes a long way.
I originally was getting free board in exchange for chores, but it quickly became obvious to me that it was unfair.
I initiated the conversation to pay, and I think that made the conversation smoother for everyone.

Honesty and fairness go a very ling way as do respect and kindness from both sides of the fence.

Haha! If I still lived in WA I would totally think about moving there. If I recall correctly you're in the Graham area? I might be thinking of someone different though. I actually wanted to show Arabians years ago. I just love my QH gelding. Maybe some day I'll venture back into the Arab world. ;)
