I'm fairly well versed in color genetics and I know not all appaloosas look like an Appaloosa. I owned one that didn't look it. I'm fairly confident Calypso is just covered in bird catcher spots and I would gladly send the payment via PayPal to Dona to be tested for LP.

I grew up riding at an Appaloosa breeding farm. I agree that those spots are not related to appy. She does not have mottled skin.

Birdcatcher spots don’t typically behave the way Calypso’s spots do.

I used to live, breathe, and sleep colours and genetics.

Oh she is. And that is her difficult side, on a tight circle.
99% of the reason I was so patient when catching her last year was it is impossible to be mad at her when she runs, because she is just so **** gorgeous. She has a gorgeous flowy canter too.

Well the L.P. debate will end given the fact I'm paying for the test so...

We will see I guess! Stay tuned!

Where is the best lab to send hairs in for that particular test?

For individual testing there is Animal Genetics Inc Animal Genetics and UC Davis Horse Tests. I seem to be the only one on the forum who has tried Etalon ETALON DIAGNOSTICS and I highly recommend them. I highly encourage to test for diseases while doing the colour test (which is the benefit of Etalon) but that is just me.

What patterns to test? Just LP? Lp+patn?

Just LP should be fine, I think. Patn is what controlled blanket and/or leopard patterns, last I knew. Snowflake and varnish are LP only expressions.
