Would it be ok to feed my horse sweet feed as a treat? I 've read threads on here how it isn't very safe nutritionally but would it hurt him fed as a treat?

As long as the horse isn't metabolic, no insulin resistance, a handful as a treat now and then won't harm him.

You could bake some into cookies if you like.

As long as you know it won't hurt your horse. Don't feed others though. Mine breaks out in hives from sweet feed because of the corn in it. Last time he got some it wasn't even a handful and he broke out all over.

Keep in mind that if you're only feeding a handful now and then you risk it becoming rancid. If someone is feeding sweet feed and you can grab a handful now and then, no biggie. But if you're buying a bag to use for an occasional treat, there are easier ways to treat your horse.

We use sweet feed to "trap" when we need to confine large numbers of animals at the same time. It is not referred to as horsie crack for no reason!

I don't think a handful now and then is harmful just be careful to store it in a cool, dry, and not too tightly closed container. There are certainly easier ways to treat them. I use several varieties of commercial treats as well as whole oats since I use treats for training regularly. A pocket full of oats is considerably less messy than a pocket full of Impact!
