I wanted to make a thread for Rhett to have all of my updates in one place.

So Rhett is my 2014 AQHA Gelding. He is bred for the western all around. He had all last year off to grow up and I started riding October of his 3 yr old yr. He’s coming along great! My trainer and I have decided to have the goal of doing amateur Horsemanship and Showmanship this year.

So, look forward to pics and video of the boy! For now, here is one!

So I don’t ride him below 30. Just personal choice of mine, I know I wouldn’t want to work my lungs in the cold. Plus I’m not in a rush to finish him so I’m not worried about it.

So we’ve taken the last week of 10-15 F to drill a lot of showmanship. He’s doing fantastic with it. I’d say he’s past green in everything but the pivot. He can pivot correct, I just haven’t added speed yet. He’s such a quick learner I know he’ll pick it up fast.

Planning on novice championships east, but we will just have to see how he’s riding as I don’t want to haul to Ohio just for showmanship....

I know his set up isn’t perfect in this. I took it for my Facebook, and my non-horsey family has no idea what “square” is. I figured the horse people could deal with it!

I won a pair of that exact blanket. I got to pick mine out and I picked that one Good blanket choice. :) Good luck at the East if you make it. We are going to the West one. Was going to go to the Central, 100 miles closer and a good $1k cheaper and no going over the Rockies, but my daughter graduates from PTA school that weekend.

I am loving this blanket! He’s managed to rip a strap off of the neck piece but other than that it has held up through this brutal winter we’ve had so far.

Good luck to you as well at novice! Keep us updated!!

Thanks. Foxy's unfortunately turned out to be too warm to use very often. My barn is heated to 50.

I am hauling to my trainer’s on Saturday for a lesson, so I am hoping to finally get some good riding video that’s not taken off my arena fence. He’s been doing great this week!

The vet is coming out on Tuesday to do his yearly dental exam.

Until I can get riding clips (hopefully) soon, here are some more random photos from tonight.

WOW. What a productive lesson. We worked Horsemanship and Showmanship. We actually privated for 2 hours.....?(typically 1!)

Unfortunately did not get video. Oops! We just got so in the zone I didn’t realize until I was unsaddled and doing Showmanship.

My trainer did switch his bit to one of her custom bits. He went great in it. Hoping to find a similar one or use the bit maker she does to have one made. It was a cathedral mouthpiece, just smaller port size than a lot you see. Solid mouthpiece. Here is my trainer’s bit:

Overall I am so happy with how the day went. My trainer is very happy with him and said “he should made a competitive pattern horse!” Which is great to hear. My trainer is very realistic. For example, the horse she was on when I got there she said “yeah this mare will not make a show horse.” It’s nice to have her solid opinion on things because I know she won’t just say what a client wants to hear.
