Question: How far apart do you set cross tie posts?

    We are putting two in the ground today...using railroad ties.....does anyone know how far to space them?

    i wouldnt know for deffinate until i measured it but i think they are about 3 meters apart :)

    this is hard to explain... you put one cross tie on one end and another on the other end....you try to clip them to each other and when they can clip to on another that tells you that thats the perfect spacing

    anywhere from 8 feet to 10 feet, usually in barn asiles, they are 12ft, Cathy

    ok the left black thing says: pole hook or whatever (as does the black one on the right)

    the blue tie says: crosstie one
    the pink tie says: crosstie two

    the black sqaure says: see how they meet and latch? this ensures that a horse will be able to fit in the middle!

    Duck, while you are correct in how to measure your crossties, I think that SkipaJo is wanting to know how far apart to place the posts:) I would go 8-10 feet apart if I were you, gives you plenty of room.

    i know but she can tell where to put the posts by that as well...just have someone hold the ends of the crossties that arent being connected and youll know where to put the posts

    The ones in my barn aisle are 12 feet apart....like Spy said 8-10 is sufficient...just make sure your posts are tall enough to attach the end high enough up...especially the wider you go....

    That all depends on how long her crossties or chains are that she will be using. I like to set my posts in the ground and then fit my chains accordingly.
