My horse is colicing right now, and the vet was here and just left. He wants me to give my horse banamine in two hours. He told my bf what to do but of course he really didn't know what my vet was talking about. So I called my friend who used to work at the vet office to come and give it to him (I don't like needles). So she wanted to know if it was intermuscular or subcantanious? I don't know, and my vet gave my horse so many things I can't remember?
    Anyone know?

Banamine is best IV. Works much faster.

Banamine IM can mess with the muscles. But if you HAVE to do it IM, do it in the triangle area infront of the shoulder. NOT the rear muscle area.

But call the vet/ vet office and get confirmation on how to give it.

Banamine comes in an injectable form for intravenous or intramuscular use.
There is also a paste available.
The last time I gave banamine if was intramuscular. The vet said that was fine.

Did the vet give him mineral oil? Crossing fingers that it isn't an impaction and resolves quickly.

he gave him the banamine, and sedated him, then put the tube up his nose, gave him oil, anti gas, and water. Now we are walking him.

Agree, Banamine is best IV...if you do have to give it yourself and go IM... make sure you draw back the plunger to make sure there is no blood... I always give IM shots in the neck, about halfway up, and two to three inches down from the crest, where there is lots of mucsle.
