How long after a mare loses her mucus plug does she foal?
It can be just a few days up to about 10 days.
Depends on the mare... if it is more than two weeks I would be concerned. LOL Is this a maiden mare?
Yes she is a maiden and her milk is almost white
Question, is that like breaking their water? I foal watched for a standardbred farm, and when the mare's water broke, those foals came quickly.....as in there were feet present....I am following these breeding/foaling threads, to learn more....thanks in advance..Cathy
The mucus plug is a thick membrane that covers the cervix when the mare starts to dialate it thins out to be a clear thin gel and gets expelled when they are close to foaling(at least thats what i believe)
Nope, the mucus plug is a a sticky mucus cervical plug which aids in sealing the lumen during pregnancy.
Thanks, I learn something here every day! Cathy
It is also ruby/crimson and usually comes out in small chunks.
