I wasn’t at all ready to try this again after just losing my filly, but this poor girl really needed help. My neighbor was trying to sell her on FB, claiming that they had recently bought her from a friend of theirs in order to help said friend out. I could swear that I’ve seen her on their property since she was a baby, but they have a lot of horses (some of which are unfortunately in similar condition to this girl) so it’s hard to say for sure.
For better or worse, I went to see her in person and was absolutely appalled by her condition. Poor kid is 2 years old and the size of a weanling. Her disproportionately huge head suggests how stunted she is :( It’s hard to say with her thick winter coat, but I’d probably put her at a 2 on the Henneke scale. You can see skeletal structures on her that I never knew existed. To top it all off, she has an underbite and a hernia, though fortunately neither are as bad as they could be.
They were asking WAY too much for her, but I eventually talked them down to a somewhat reasonable price for a starving 2 year old.
So there we have it. My most recent pity purchase:

She really looks much better and more “normal” in pictures, which is why I was so shocked when I saw her in person. She looks more like a donkey than a horse and is so incredibly disproportional :(

Did you check her mouth? From the pictures, it appears that she's parrot mouthed.

Also, horses actually bounce back from being malnourished pretty well. Take it slow, get this kid on some high quality feed, and I feel a diamond in the rough is here!!

Keep us updated, she is darling. What's her name?

Wow, I was thinking she didn't look that bad til that top-down photo that shows her topline. So awful. :(

She has a kind eye. I'm sure she'll flourish!
