Almost 2 years ago, a friend posted on Facebook looking for a home for 2 elderly kitties. They had belonged to a friend of hers who died suddenly. My husband and I took them in. Ginger passed away after about a year with us. That year was filled with love and cuddling and care. He then went into end-stage kidney failure and passed quietly in my arms. I have his ashes in a lovely carved box in our bedroom. We brought Buttons to the vet today. She has been passing blood in her urine. Her blood tests show good organ function but the vet could feel a mass in her bladder. She has an appointment next week for an ultrasound. At this point we can't say for sure what it is but it may be stones, it may be cysts, and it may be cancer. She is in good spirits and does not appear to be in pain. We will provide her with as much treatment as is appropriate to keep her comfortable and to treat if possible, but we will not subject her to chemotherapy or other heroic measures. She has lived a long life and does not deserve that. If the time comes that we are unable to keep her comfortable, we will give her the gift of peace. We are keeping our hopes up that our beautiful girl will be with us for years to come, and will keep you updated on her prognosis. We welcome all good wishes and prayers.
