I have a big tub of Orvis paste I use. I'll also buy baby shampoo and cheap hair conditioner at the dollar store.
For leave-in I dilute Infusium 23 leave-in conditioner with water.
It's fairly cheap at Wally World and stock up when it goes on sale.

Orvus to wash, show sheen to detangle. I know some people say show sheen causes breakage, I've never seen that to be the case but I only use it after I bathe. If they have really bad knots or mane/tail is really dry, I've used argan oil products with great success.

I buy lucky braids by the gallon, it has some antifungal properties and leaves the coat reaaly soft and glossy.
I use Dawn with Oxy on stained white tails.
I also buy the vetroline white ( purple shampoo)

I don't prefer to use shampoo at all. No option in the poll for that choice.

If I have stains, I use Goop on just the stain, and just warm water on the rest of the horse. Shampoo mucks with the ph of the skin and can strip oils from the coat.

That said, if I have one that's a faded, sun bleached mess, and I have to go somewhere with them, I'll use Shapley's color shampoos to put some oompfh back in the coat.

If I have one that's itchy or has some other skin issue, I add iodine to the water and let the iodine kill whatever is in or on their skin, then rinse well.
