Well, I've decided to to stall decorations for the fair show that's on labor day weekend. I have two stalls, so while it'll probably look a bit funny since there are only 2, I'm going to do it anyway since this may be my last year of showing my horse (since I'm looking to go to college next fall). They judge for the best decorated stall and the theme is patriotism, but I don't expect to do well since I only have 2 stalls and the same person wins every year because he brings quite a few horses (we totally had the best decorations a few years ago when we brought a string of about 4 horses, plus our tack stall, but he still won :rolleyez: ) But I do want it to look nice. This was our decorations a few years ago:

I'm thinking that I might do something similar this year... with a few twists and more stars & stripes =) Here's the basic layout of my stall plan:

I am planning on using the same stall fronts as before and making my horse a new stall plaque, since his is kinda MIA right now *lol* I'm planning on making the ribbon rack out of dowels and ribbon (and paint the dowels blue... maybe with a coat of silver glitter paint on top of it... not sure yet)... if I make one anyway - depends on how much time I have. I can't decide if I will hang the flag like we did a few years ago, or hang it behind the door as a curtain (that's the stall that I will be sleeping in/tack stall *lol*), I'll prob hang it like we did before because I don't want to upset anyone by pushing the flag aside while walking in and out of the stall  The flowers (mums) will be white and red, and I'm trying to find a way to dye some of the white ones blue *lol* The picture frames (three matted 5x7 pictures hanging in two rows with two un-matted 8x10 pictures in the center), all pictures of my horse from the past few years, will look like this:

The last 2 don't show the colors well... the first one is the best :) Then the table is going to have the flag fabric as the tablecloth. It's the same light wood table as in the top pic (it has a neat blue stripe tablecloth on it in that pic), but I'm going to repaint it so that it's silver, like the frames. On the table I'm going to have a votive holder (that I'm going to etch) that I will have a citronella candle in, and I may repaint Breyer ASB Stablemate to look like my horse and put it on the table too - once again, depends on time :p

What do you think? Any comments/suggestions would be totally appreciated and welcome - positive or negative :D I just want feedback on what people think of it *lol* Thanks a bunch!!

Awe as long as that cute little ASB bum is visible itll be great ;) LOL. I LOVE it. Very creative ;) Our show setup isnt quite that elaborate (mostly because we go to so many and have to set up and take down so much ;) ) But wow, your doing great with it! Put the white mums in blue water somehow and they will dye themselves;) Sounds GREAT- keep me updated on the contest and how your show goes! ASB sport horse pride !

If the mums are live plants, try using water that is tinted blue with food coloring, sprayed on with a spray bottle. Also consider varying the plants by color - white mums, blue petunias, red geraniums... or whatever is local to your area.

Another way to get the blue going is to wrap the pots in long blue fabric strips, with big bows or something - you can get really creative with different kinds of fabric and shades of blue. With the 4th of july not long past, you could probably also get some holiday fabric really cheap.

    Good luck!

That's very ornate! I think it will look incredible once you're finished.
Maybe you can paint the flower pots red, white, and blue, too!

    I would use R/W/B Patriotic Bunting (http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?pgp=5S003N)

    .....also....
Have some red. white and blue flowers around, or R/W/B Jelly beans (http://jellybelly.com/Cultures/en-U...avors&Category_Parent=Jelly Belly Jelly Beans)

.....or even R/W/B M&Ms (http://shop.mms.com/customized/printing/step1.asp)....and be sure to have a tape or CD player playing, Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA (I'm proud to be an American) softly (but loud enough to hear) in the background.

I would also suggest for next year .....that they divide the contest into different divisions based on the number of stalls each exhibitor has to keep things a bit more fair.

 Oh and if you sew, or have a relative or good friend that does...make a Uncle Sam/Yankee Doodle doll and have him riding on a pony.... as part of your decorations! :D

*LOL* Thanks, and that good ol' ASB bum will be on display for all the world to see *lol* People LOVE my horse at this fair, because there's a board that runs across the front of the stalls, and my horse stands on it and looks like he's about 19hh :hah: I have to put up a mesh stall guard because his chest is right about the height of the door when he does that, and I don't want him thinking that he can jump on over (though I don't think that he would :p) Poeple come by and are all going "My, aren't you a big guy", while my horse is proudly perched on the door, watching the ferriswheel go round and round *lol*

I tried to use dyed water to turn the mum's blue, but it didn't work - then I tried to spray them with dyed water, but THAT didn't work (the water just rolled off and rinsed away... so then I resorted to diluting acrylic paint and spraying it on... AND IT WORKED!!!! *LOL* I'll have to take a picture of the blue mum's :p I plan on varying the colors, but they'll all be mum's... red white, and dyes blue ones :D

Sandra- I thought about doing candy in a jar, but then I thought about all of the people coming through, and I don't want them feeding my horse tons of candy because it's sitting there *lol* I may do a jar of peppermints but I'm not sure... if I do I'll be putting them away when I'm not sitting there  Or I may put some red, white, and blue carnations or something on the table... haven't decided. I know that once the sun starts to go down, my Off Lamp will be sitting on the table, keeping the bugs away *lol*

I wish that they would divide it into like 2 sections, but there aren't THAT many people who decorate their stalls in accordance to the "theme", and the show manager always judges it, and always gives it to the same person. But I figure that with my stalls decorated, I'll be able to find them faster when it's dark out

Thanks guys for the input! I hope it'll all turn out alright... I'm just finishing up my pictures and working on painting a Breyer Stablemate to look like my horse. I was kind of thinking about painting something like a horse outline on the sheet that I will be hanging in the doorway of my tack/sleeping stall (since I'm not going to hang the flag there)... something like this:

    or this:
or something *lol* I don't know, though... do you think that it would be too busy?????

    Thanks guys :D

Here's a few pictures of my blue mums :) I just need to get the hang of painting them *lol* I accidentally mixed my paint a little too strong, and they don't like it much  SO I need to dilute it more *lol* The first picture is before I sprayed them with the new paint mixture... they were really pale (the picture makes them look much more blue than they were). The second picture was right after I sprayed them with the new mixture... they looked good until I sprayed them again - now they're kinda ugly *lol* They'll come around though (I hope :p)

And I also decided to add a light to the decorations... that way, when night falls I can see better *lol* So this is the light that I bought to use:

that way it kind of fits with the patriotic theme :) I decided not to paint on the sheet, as I think that it would be too busy, but am going to paint on a door mat that will be sitting in front of my stall instead *lol*

Boy... I need to get to work!!!!!! :D
