My 3 yr old gelding seems to have a cold, I DID have him checked by the vet last week when he had his teeth floated and the vet says his chest is clear - he has quite a bad cough an a minorly snotty nose that is creamy colored. (He does not have strangles) The vet said he sees alot of this at this time of the year and doesnt want to give him antibiotics because he says it is viral and the antibiotics wont do anything for him. He does not have a fever and otherwise seems to be okay but THE PROBLEM IS >>> he is supposed to be going to the US for training on October 26 (just over a month away) and there is no way he will pass a health check to cross the border right now. What would you do to help speed his recovery ? Should I keep him inside or is he better off outside ? It is not that cold here yet and he does have a shelter outside. The barn is heated and sealed so may trap in the germs. Any advise would be appreciated otherwise I will have to cancel his training. The trainer is leaving for the US and wont be back til march so if he cant go it would really suck .
