Horse cut his eye

    hey yall i just moved my horse to a new farm sunday we he seemed to settle in good untill today i went out there and he was all beat up he has this cut near he eye in the corner didnt look to bad just a little swollen how to i keep it from getting infected??????

    If it is close to the eye, I would have the vet check it to be sure the eye wasn't injured as well. A corneal scratch would not be visable to you, it requires staining the cornea and a woods lamp to see. Other than that, keep it clean, and I would use triple antibiotic ointment on it.

    I absolutely agree with the above post. You don't want to take any chances when it comes to eyes... I would call your vet.

    If there is a chance the triple antibiotic ointment could get into the eye make sure it's the kind that does not have pain relief in it. (that was what my vet told me when my appy girl actualy ripped part of her eyelid)

    if its not to bad i would bath it with warm water

    an apply some cream but avoiding getting any in the eye :)

    ok thank yall for the advise i have a fly mask should i put it on him to keep the bugs away from the cut???

    yes a fly mask would help keep off any flies an help stop infections
