My gelding has a crack in his hoof and I am trying to grow it out. What is the best supplement/treatment for it?

Good diet, appropriate trim intervals, and perhaps a topical application if horses kept in sand or other dry environments.

a proper trim, depending on the location of the crack, a couple rotations of shoes may help.

Yes, I will be getting a new farrier because I called him almost two weeks ago and he hasn't gotten back to me and it has been eight week since his last trim... :cautious: It's is so hard to find a good farrier around here though and he does a great job.

Good farriers are hard to find. However, the saying you get what you paid for is true at times.

Good ones should be kept and treasured - they will easily leave dangerous and/or untrained horses and owners.

It’s their livelihoods, can’t risk getting injured or killed by an idiot horse.

Can you get us pictures following this website? Good Hoof Photos - How to take Good Hoof Photos

Camera flat on ground facing hoof is best

Cracks can be environmental or the cause of poor trim - excess hoof will “crack” or even split and fall off. This will help us determine which is which.

No supplement or ointment or topical can fix poor trimming if that is the case

Put hoof dressing on it to keep it from drying out further, or absorbing excess moisture, which can cause the crack to widen.
