Its this white crumbly stuff that smells horrid on the bottom of the hoof at the tip of the frog and some on the sides. My horse is lame on his front left ans i don't know if the white stuff is the cause of that? If any one knows what this stuff is and can tell me what it is and how to fix it that would be great! Thanks!

    Here are some pictures...

The photos aren't working. You'll have to upload them (either to this site or a photo hosting service like photobucket).

It sounds like you're describing exfoliating sole. But it could be something else as well.

Sounds like a very bad case of thrush. Spray some betadine/iodine on it everyday. You also might want to get the farrier out, to cut out what he can. Basically, your horse's hoof is rotting away from, probably, too much moisture.

I agree with Reitpferde. If you noticed black stuff that smelled really bad in your horse's foot before, this is the next step. Clean your horse's feet out and get a good bottle of thrushbuster or what Reitpferde suggested (probably cheaper :) ) to get it taken care of. The help of a farrier wouldn't hurt either.

Thrush Buster is awesome, but pricey. I use it on occasion. Please make sure, you don't use bleach. That is too harsh a remedy.

The thing is i don't it thrush cause there is no black stuff an the only thing that smells is the white stuff. Could it be the cause of his lameness in front left. He is really stiff down by the ankle?

The white stuff is just dead/flaking sole. Not a problem.

The smell may be thrush, but it would be black, and probably living in the crevices of the cleft of the frog.

IMO, it looks like thrush to me. I don't know about the lameness.

No - not the cause of any lameness.

Considering the white stuff is old dead cells on feet that are walking around in some pretty strong smells, I'd guess that's not a real problem either, if it doesn't smell good.

Ever smell one of those cow hooves for dogs after a dog's been sucking on it? Pheeeew!
