Healthy low cal snacks and meals,lets share ideas!

    Ok, since there seems to be quite a bit of us who gained some serious weight lately I thought it would be nice to share some food ideas. We all know we have to eat if we want an active metabolism but apparently we are eating too much and/or the wrong things.

    As for me I have vowed to reduce if not remove sugar from my diet, I consume WAY too much of it! In about 6 months I have gained 23 lbs, you heard me, and I am miserable! I havent weighted this much since I was 9 months pregnant 11 years ago!:no: :eek: :blushing:

    All it took for me to gain that weight was get lazy and start eating fast food and drinking pop! I've cut both of them completely out again and yet Im still gaining weight (**** alcohol lol)

    Anywho, lets all try to post food/meal plan ideas that are affordable and user friendly to help each other out!

    If you are NOT a cook from scratch type of gal here is one of my favs for a healthy light lunch-

    Starkist tuna creations (sweet and spicy is yummy) right out of the pouch if you eat the whole pouch you are FULL and it is only 175 cals and 1.5 g fat:wink:
    5 saltine crackers minimal cals and no fat IF you get the right ones
    lettuce w/fat free dressing (cataline is awesome,can't taste a diff and im picky!) roughly 80 cals
    iced tea (hold the sugar) no cals!

    So rounded up, you get a high protein,low fat,lowcal lunch that FILLS you up with lets say a grand total of 300 cals and 1.5-4 g fat depending on your cracker choice, probably closer to 250:D

    oh and DO chart what you eat and DON'T lie lol I found a GREAT journal for free online to track my food and activity. Lets just say I had NO idea how much junk I was ingesting, it breaks it down calories,fat,cholesterol,sodium etc, you can chart your measurements etc.

    There are graph charts to show you your progress or lack of and it is a serious eye opener.

    Progresso healthy choice soups are great as well BUT be careful if you are watching your sodium, canned soups do add up.! I've found many 100 cal per serving selections I love, I eat the whole can so I double that BUT its still a filling lunch for under 250 cals.

    I snack on fruit, nuts, and yogurt :)

    For meals, for supper we eat a lot of stir fry. Not the store bought mixes anymore though, I used to do that but they aren't as healthy. I slice up either chicken of beef strips, and add fresh veggies. Top off with a few tbsp's of teriyaki sauce, serve with whole grain rice :) It's really good!

    We eat a lot of venison too, Brad got 3 deer this year. For supper I always try to make sure that a healthy, lean meat and vegetables are the main parts of the meal :)

    For lunch I usually have a turkey sandwhich (whole grain bread) and yogurt.

    I am going to Chapters tonight and buying this book...looks interesting anyways, and I think I eat close to this usually...except on holidays (Christmas is a bad time for me food wise LOL!!!)

    There has been a lot of research on the role that whole grains play in the diet. They help you lose the stomach fat which is the bad fat supposedly that can lead to strokes, etc.. They also keep you full longer.

    One thing I found was to eat off a smaller plate but fill it full. You deceive yours eyes. Portions have gotten way out of control. I am not much of a snacker so that helps. I am considered a healthy weight if you go by the body fat index which is not really a good way to measure but the one most people use.

    Muscle building burns fat! They have found lifting weights, they don't need to be heavy. Even pumping a can of vegetables will help. Muscle burns fat. We are missing a lot of omega's in our diets and I was also told us Americans eat backwards. Eat your salad last as the salad is your cleaner of your system. Flax seed is really good for your omegas. We should be eating a percentage of carbs/protien/fat. (good fat).

    I also read from a forum to eat right after a work out but no fat.

    Soda is really bad, even the 'diet' soda. Try to not drink much fruit juice. If you do make sure it's the 100%.

    Really? Orange Juice isn't good? Rats! since I've been drinking OJ every morning I haven't been sick! But I haven't lost any weight either. :no:

    I like that "sparkling" flavored water...I gave up pepsi but crave the fizz. So the fizzy water helps me get in the huge amount of water you are supposed to drink everyday.

    cowgurly02, you are so right...I fix that same meal once a week every week! It is so good tasting. Tho I have not tried it with teriyaki sauce, I have only used abit of minced garlic and soy sauce to flavor it up. I mix a raw egg in with the soy and stir constantly so I don't have fried egg at the bottom of the pan! It was a recipe I found on Sparkpeople.com Gonna have to try the teriyaki now tho! I love teriyaki! :)
