Ok, so I was wondering if anyone has any secrets for getting a horses tail nice and white.

I don't really want to go out and by a "whitening shampoo" or a "whitening spray" so let's hear what you have used!

My friend who owns a gray horse with a white tail and mane uses Quicksilver on it. I guess it's a kind of shampoo or whatever? But it's made specifically to get the horse white, white, WHITE!

We used some kind of Panteen(sp?) shampoo on out horse's white feet. I suppose it might work on a tail as well. I wouldn't know sine my horse has a black tail. LOL

I used a pantee shampoo on my horses tail to, it was the anti-residue one. It didn't get it perfectly white but it did a pretty good job.

I use Blue Rinse shampoo (the stuff they sell for white haired people) but with some elbow grease I find that dish soap works alright too. To me it's a matter of consistently washing the tail- a couple of time a week instead of the day before the show. I also put Mane&Tail conditioner in the tail every day after I ride.

Question. I am reading this with interest, as my paint has a predominantly white tail, but he also has, light red, dark red, brown and nearly black. Will these remedies, dull the colored parts?

Hmmm. Now that I am looking at it, I guess it is NOT predominantly white. The white does run on the underside too though, which you cannot see in this pic.:p
