Had the most amazing opportunity to gallop at Pimlico (home of the Preakness!) last weekend. Almost 300 riders turned out starting at 6 a.m. to walk, trot, canter, or gallop on the famous track!

That looks like so much fun! I'd love to really gallop Bella - there's nothing around here where I can really get her going.

It was awesome! And they had all walks of life there--ponies to drafts, western riders and gaited horses! Really cool experience and the money raised went to the retired racehorse project and breast cancer research.

The entire event was really well run and well organized, no chaos, and only a few riders were out on the track at once (grouped by the speed at which you wanted to ride). They are planning to hold it again next year!

Next year, too, Huh? Hmm... I'm going to need a trailer... I can probably borrow my dad's dually....

I so wanna go! Somehow I'll have to remember. Although, since I have trouble remember what I just walked into a room to get.... :p

Well, after speaking to the organizers, they will continue to have it as long as Pimlico is still standing!

I don't think it's a big secret that the racing industry isn't what it used to be, and they are closing down tracks (and blowing them up!) all over the country. Pimlico is not a money making facility and it seems like every year they threaten to shut it down and move the Preakness elsewhere :(

Anyone in VA wanna share gas next year? LOL. I'm in southern VA... so northern NC would be cool too... And can fit 3 more horses ;-)
