i work in an ice cream place, and one of our freezers is -20*, it's where we put freshly made ice cream so it can freeze. today, i was in there with a big winter coat that we have, and gloves. when i came out, my right ear REALLY hurt, and it was bright red, so of course i went to touch it. i swear it was almost legit frozen, i didnt know if i was touching my hat or my ear, it was so numb and felt so weird. but once i could feel it normally, when i would touch it, it felt like it was burning, then would really hurt when i'd let go. this happened at 11am. it's now 11:50pm, and its still red but now its swollen, and still sore to touch. my dad said its freezer burn, and he told me to not touch my ear. i heard that this could happen from a rapid re-warming, i came out of a -20* freezer into a 70* room, but i've been int here tons of times before, and this has only happened once before, last summer. so do you have any ideas of how to maybe get rid of it sooner? last summer when i had it, i couldnt sleep on my right side (it's the same ear, which is weird..) because just my ear touching my pillow hurt. so we'll see how tonight works out. but any ideas how to get rid of it, or if you think its something different than freezer burn? thanks :)

Sounds like frostbite, have you checked webMD to see if there's anything helpful on there?

Sounds to me like a burn. Just like any other burn, there isn't a whole lot you can do for it. If it's super swollen you can take an over the counter anti-inflamatory. If it blisters, do NOT pop it. If after a few days it seems to be worse, go to your doctor. If you start to notice extra tenderness behind your ear, or in fron along the side of your face, go to the doctor (the last two could mean infection).

Honestly it should heal pretty fast, and any complications are unlikely. I got a burn on my leg from where the physical therapist left ice on my leg too long recently. I healed no problem, and mine was a pretty large area.

From what i'm aware, not frostbite. frost bite is when you're cells completely freeze and they're dead and you can't feel the frozen part. and its like a blackish blue color...

The best thing for you would be to leave the area alone and let your body take its course. But make sure to watch it.

Give it about a week and see how the area looks. If it starts to become black/blue or any sign of your skin deadening then you need to see a doctor ASAP!

We get alot of patients that come in that will have freezer burns on different areas of their body. Normally the doctor or the RN working will send them home and tell them to just watch the area and if it doesn't return to normal within a week they need to come back. Now if the skin was white or starting to blacken is when the RN/DR will admister treatment
