I was at a horse fair and one of the speakers was a retired fire fighter. He mentioned that I should invite my local fire department out to familiarize them with horses, so that's what I did! It was a win win for everyone! The horses got used to the trucks and fire fighters in their gear, and the firemen got to handle horses and ask questions. I encourage others to reach out to their local first responders and see if they are interested. Positive comments only. We took video of it, and I thought I'd share.

The first thing I thought of was wow those trucks are long and I need to tear out my driveway and redo it!

Right! That is a big concern of firefighters in rural areas. There must be enough clearance with the trees and enough width on the driveway. It was a super fun couple of nights. Everyone had a good time and it was a win win for everyone :)

Friends of mine are in the fire department locally and their families have horses and consistently do horse rescues (both real and staged) with the fire department and horses. At least yearly training and they've had to use those skills multiple times a year.

Yes, my fire department was talking about a couple instances they had with rescuing horses too. I'm so thankful for people that are willing to do that!

This is such a great idea. The wildfires were terrible here in California last year, and so many horses had to be evacuated from Santa Rosa and other areas. It's hard to remember when you're around horses all the time that lots of people have very little experience around them!
