I am having difficulty finding a saddle to fit my new Haflinger. Does anyone know of any brands of Western saddles that make ones to fit Haffies?

I currently own a Big Horn and love it, but it has full quarter bars and isn't working on Roscoe.

My haffie has very muscular shoulders. He also has a short back.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm heading to my local tack shop this afternoon to see what they have. I'd like to find something under $1000, and would prefer to go even lower, if possible.

    drafthorseclassified.com for made-for-draft tree/bars

You may need to get a hoop tree (but maybe that's only for English saddles?)

Otherwise, you can try some saddles made for DRAFTS, with actual DRAFT TREES (not "full quarter horse bars")

We bought one for our Belgian Draft here. The gullet is really wide but the key is the bars are LONGER and SET AT A WIDER ANGLE for his broad back/shoulders:

They are inexpensive, too :) And Rich (the contact) is really great to work with

Big Horn Flex Tree. I had to get one for my very broad shouldered Appy and I LOVE it! It also has the rounded skirt very similar to a Tucker which is great for my Appy's short back! My local tack guy has several Big Horns and other brand flex tree's for around $450 each.

Big Horn also makes a "Haflinger" tree western saddle, it is almost as wide a a draft tree. I have one on my mare, and she could still use a draft tree, but it fits well enough for now. I ordered mine from a tack store on the east coast, it was around $850 with no tax and free shipping.

Please let us know how the thing fits :) My haffie is so ready to 'do a job' and the FQHB Simco with the really wide 7.5 inch gullet (Charles Sander's hand made vintage) is the same length but i don't like the way it seems to rub on his back. He's only 27 inches from wither to flank adn that Halfinger Trail saddle is 26ish ;) I have bought so many saddles I could either open a saddle shop or a stable. ;) and still.... nothing fits the way I want it to. Thanks!

I GOT TO RIDE MY MICHA OUTOF THE PADDOCK!!! for an old granny ... i cried i was so very happy. he shied and was naughtly like a colt for cripes sake but with a rear chinch and breast collar... no slip, no falling off ..... i might finally have my 'partner'.

Still stubborn , but he's a haffie :) I'm Scottish so we.. well we're a team :)
