Don't do it. It may take many people complaining for years and filing the necessary paperwork to get the legal ball rolling, but that doesn't mean tax cheats and people committing charity fraud will never get caught.

I see that NNER (dissolved)/Scarlet's Legacy (EIN 475164643) is in default with the state of Nevada. Nor have they filed their 2015 990. On the business entity page there is a notation that the organization is in default and they claimed to have received $40,000 - so a 990 should have be generated. I don't know what year they're claiming to have received that amount of money. If 2015, then the 990 should be available by now.

It was so hard/ much work for BO to get a 501C3, its amazing people with abuse and threaten it....but money does weird things to some peoples ethics.
Playing loose with the rules sounds like what sank AC4H in PA.
Another Chance 4 Horses, said that the FBI was concerned about equine health certificates. In fact, the search warrant issued by U.S. District Court Judge Henry Perkin in Allentown noted that investigators were seeking evidence of criminal acts such as wire fraud. Recent developments have made it clear that the health certificates were irrelevant to the overarching investigation
.. continued to solicit funds after their certificate of registration had expired in November, 2012, a further violation of the state’s rules governing non-profits. In August 2013 the state issued a cease and desist order, meant to stop the organization from soliciting funds. They violated that order as well.

No surprise here! I haven't heard anything about them in quite some time. I wonder if they even are still existing or if people finally figured out they were nothing more than hoarders.

Never mind, I went to look just because it is more of the same. Saving pregnant mares that are due to drop any day from certain death. Claiming once again that they are scheduled to ship in like 2 days only to have the deadline extended and miraculously they all get saved! Posting pictures of foals, heavily pregnant mares, ponies, all claiming they were on trucks to slaughter houses. Buying directly from the kill buyer who is making a "killing" on the horses he really can't take to slaughter.

More begging for funds, saying they are full and yet just days later posting more pictures of new horses. Looks like they took in at least 43 (min) between Feb 19 when they say they are full and April 8th. Saying they had a few "adoptions" so have the room.

So they are still the best rescue ever!! Still have the best adoption rates of any rescue known to man!

Yeah. DT was also up at ISPMB to get more horses. She didn't get as many as she wanted to acquire though. Hmm.

You know, if you open up the two 2015 990's and look at them there are at least two things that catch your eye straightaway.

    1) The handwriting is the same
    2) The PHONE NUMBERS are the same.

    That takes hubris.

Scarlet's Legacy is now begging for more money. And found this while searching for their 990s.

Scarlets Legacy bailed over a dozen sick foals from Bastrop kill pen without the funds to provide medical care. They transported them to Texas where they began to die. Instead of completing their own rescue mission they called several Texas rescues to take them. Once those that survived were re-rescued from Scarlets Legacy and signed over, a fundraising campaign for them remained on social media. My second concern is the high volume of horses being donated to the rescue and the limited number of horses shown for adoption.

Well, if you take in over $50,000/year you're supposed to fill out a 990. NOT a 990-N
