Well if it's any indicator, out of three mares, not a single one has a foal on the ground. They are "due" or were "due", one back on the 25th. I still peg Indi out at least this weekend, or more. Courtney and Lore.. the end of the month if we're lucky, and they're "due" now.

Glad to know that I am worried over nothing. This thread has been reassuring. Being at day 342 without a foal on the ground is not sounding bad any longer.

My friend just finished foaling her mares and she is quite upset. She had four mares due and only one live foal.
First mare (previous dates-336 colt and 347 filly) foaled at 384 days a stillborn filly
Second mare (maiden)- foaled at 378 a dysmature colt- lost him at an hour old
Third mare- (previous dates- 337 filly,342 filly, 348 colt, and 345 filly)- foaled at 357 colt- lost to twisted cord
And yesterday her last mare (previous colt 344 days) foaled at 347 days a healthy filly.
She is not breeding back any of her mares this year and is talking to her vet about what went wrong this year. There was no fescue or health issues with the mares.

The three mini's I've been involved with during their pregnancies all went right around the 320 mark. I've heard from breeders that 320 is normal for their horses, but I've heard the 340 mark too from others. Maybe there is some wierd unknown factor at play

I think around 340 is more common than 320 from what I have heard. Isn't 320 considered to be a tad bit early? Just trying to learn more. :)

SaraJJJ ....my condolences to your friend. What a horrible thing to have happen. I hope she and her vet can figure it out so it never happens again.

I always had a vet tell me that 320 days was the line between pre-mature and normal. I had one born at 319 and she was ok, just small. But by about 8 months she caught up in size.

By most people's standards, 320 is the cut-off into "safe zone". Before that is a little worrisome. However, IME that doesn't seem to apply to minis. I know there are people saying their minis foal at 340+ and I believe them, just going by what my friends' (multiple) horses normally do and it's definitely more like 315-325 without concern of preemies (I've yet to see a preemie among my friends fwiw).

Mine is on day 344....no bag what so ever....was sorta checked maybe 6 or 8 weeks ago when the vet was out looking at her tendons and feet....she went in to check for an impaction and felt "it".....this vet is not a repro one..I am more worried that there is no bag forming then anything else...This mare foaled at 325/6 with her first/only foal....

2 weeks overdue for my mare and she is a mare that NEVER went as much as 1 DAY over with her previous foals. On time or early in the past by a few days. Never over

I am hearing 2 weeks is the norm this year to be "overdue"
