Hello, i have a 4 day old bay foal with prominent stripes on her hindquarters. Is this countershading, and will it go away? Snapchat-1959723417.jpg Snapchat-269800565.jpg Snapchat-1789480953.jpg Snapchat-1223954722.jpg

Commonly called "Foal Camo". It will go away.

My filly had that, and she still has it now that she is 3. It may go away or it may not

This is the only one I can find, it goes the entire length of her back. In the inter she darkens a ton and is less visible but with her summer coat that is how it shows. received_10208553670510102.jpeg

OH yes a dorsal counter shading stripe is possible. My own bay has one. I am referring to the "stripes" on the hips of the foal.

Did she ever have the stripes on hips or just the dorsal?

I think the stripes on the hip have more to do with coat texture than pigment.

Not that uncommon. It'll go away.

I think it will go away, but I'm not sure... I've never heard of countershading. To me it looks like weird baby hair.
