Recip mare is on weekly altrenogest IM. i'm supposed to have her progesterone levels checked next week, same day she gets her shot. How long after giving the injection should i test? Immediately? Give it a few hours between?

If I remember correctly, I don't think the altrenogest will show up on the test? I only had one mare on regumate, and that was several years ago. we didn't test her, just kept her on it.

Just query your vet, they'd know the timing roughly. (y)

If I recall rightly, the test detects her body hormones, not altrenogest. In that case I don't think it matters when you give the altrenogest. But best to ask your vet.

Updating this in case it pops up in a search.

I consulted with another vet during a trip to take Chloe to check on her eye. This vet does do some repro work. She said (as we had googled) that the altrenogest is synthetic so it won't show up on the test anyway, so it didn't matter when the shot was given. Also, to only use the red top containers after drawing the blood because the red and gray interfere with the clotting.

    The more you know!! :D
