I wanted to try barrel racing this winter but my horses is Arabian.
can anyone tell me anything about this? Do they do well in this sport or are they
just not made for it. Anything would be helpful.

Any horse can barrel race. If I'm not mistaken I have seen Arabians doing reining, and I think that is more strenuous than barrel racing. It's really up to the individual horse if it will be good at it.
I don't think you will have as much luck winning as a QH does. But only because Arabians are made for distance running, not speed.

Most of the horses who win at barrels at all but the highest levels win because: they run the pattern cleanly and correctly. You probably couldn't win a state show on most Arabians, but you could definitely clean up an open show if your horse knew what it was doing and enjoyed running.

My first barrel horse was an Arabian. He was pretty darn good. He's still running and winning to this day with his current owner.

Any horse can barrel race, not every horse can win. Arabs do very well in lower level shows. You won't make it to the NFR, but you can be very competitive in lower, local levels.

Mmh, first you aks about trying to learn trick riding without a trainer, then jumping without a trainer, and now you want to learn how to barrel race on your own?

My advice. Stick to what you can safely do. Barrel racing, just as jumping and trick riding (and every other specialised discipline) requires technique and if you are unwilling or unable to afford a trainer to teach you some correct basics, just simply don't do it.

Some horses are bred for it, and have the conformation for it. You just have to be picky on what you choose. I wouldn't count an Arabian out merely on breed. Go try some!

My neighbor used to raise them. Some were doggone good horses, and this is coming from a confirmed dyed in the wool Quarter Horse gal!

My ex barrel raced an arab (she was grade, I believe, but pretty obvious she didn't have any stock horse in her.) and they cleaned up and placed well at rated shows, I don't remember what level though.
