ok, so i hear about mules. they are a cross between a horse/pony and a donkey right? Ive never seen one. would imagine they would be kinda ugly looking (no offence to anyone who has one) brings me to my question... does anyone have one, if so what are they like temerament wise and to ride. Does anyone have a picture - maybe they arent that ugly after all. i just picture a short, hairy, tubby thing with big ears.

This is a bad picture but the only one I have on my computer. If you want to see what one looks like, Google it.

Mules generally aren't particularly ugly - infact many are cute!
And they can be bred to be quite tall if the dam is a horse (usually mules with a horse sire are smaller)... and alot depends on the size of mule/horse. But I've seen mules that are 15.3-16 hands.

I don't own a mule...but am hoping to one day. I found this link that has different pictures for you to look at: http://www.mules.org/memberphotos.htm

If you have RFD-TV you can watch Merideth Hodges work and train her mule. As for your question about riding...they are very rideable and very versitable in thier discipline. I watch the above show and she trains her mules for dressage, jumping, driving...etc. There is not very much that I haven't seen her do with a mule.

    Anyway..hope this helps!

I grew up with mules, and i can tell you that they are great. People will say that they are dumb and stubborn. But that's just not true, in fact it's the opposite. They are extrememly smart.

They are great to ride too, they are smooth and not as choppy as a horse. I competed in dressage, eventing and showjumping with mules. ANd a lot of times, I beat people with horses!
    Here are some pics:
