    A Word About Our Rescue
    Feeding

All foals are on textured mare and foal grain, milk replacer, priobiotic (milk replacer is hard on their stomach), and calf manna. Foals are turned out on grass as much as possible and are on free choice grass and alfalfa hay.

All of the foals drink milk out of a bucket. This helps to prevent foals that are mouthy or pushy. We highly recommend bucket feeding and being sure to teach them manners from a young age!

    Method

Upon arrival, foals are checked for any wounds and sores and are evaluated based on health and weight.

Foals that are less comfortable around people, need to put on some extra weight or just need some extra TLC live in a stall.

Once foals are comfortable around people they alternate between the pasture and stall. We halter break our foals as best as we have time to.

    A Word About Our Care

Eleventh Hour Foal Haven rescues foals from nurse mare farms. Nurse mare foals are often put down as the mares were bred to feed and nurture another, more valuable, mare's foal. We save foals of all breeds, colors, ages and sizes.

Unfortunately, this is extremely costly. We are always looking for people to volunteer time, supplies and monetary donations. We hope to be able to grow our program to save more and more foals every year!

Many of the foals that come in are less than two days old, some needing plasma or colostrum. Many are so weak they need to be tube fed. Some are premature or products of induced labor and have health problems or physical problems that require veterinary attention.

    AND...guess who Swift Creek is?

    TA DA!

    Themselves Camps!

    From that link.....
    Foal Rescue
Swift Creek's owner also runs Eleventh Hour Foal Haven, which rescues orphaned nurse mare foals from euthanasia. Foals are bottle fed, cleaned, and halter broke during spring break and the early sessions of summer camp. Campers have some opportunities to help care for the foals during these sessions. 11th Hour is always looking for volunteers and donations!

So the foal rescue gets its foals from Swift Creek only??????

Or are they paying themselves to use Swift Creek facilities? Co-mingling?

    How does that work?

Further down the FB page they say their lease with Swift Creek is now limited....

"...This year we are only limitedly able to use Swift Creek's facilities. We have built stalls and a paddock at another location...."

I get the impression she is the trainer (or boarder) at the equestrian facility, "Swift Creek", which is in VA, and has been leasing space from them for her rescue. The equestrian center may or may not be affiliated with the place in KY. Either way this rescue may have worked out a deal with them to allow her to run her rescue at the equestrian site.

She looks to be running a nice rescue. She's definitely more upfront about the rescue than others.

Well, we know this is a money maker for these types.

I have seen them just today come across my feed several times, had not seen them before, and one of those posts from them did make it sound as if Swift Creek was the source, but it may be as another said, was using that facility.

We rescue orphaned nurse mare foals from being euthanized, get them healthy, and then find them homes.

We are located in Manakin-Sabot, VA.

Eleventh Hour Foal Havenit was founded in 2014. We are looking for donations for the foals coming in 2016 smile emoticon. Yes, we can take Paypal.. Or rather paypal to my husband who can transfer it to the eleventh hour bank account (I'm not that tech savvy!) His Paypal account is offroadgearhead@hotmail.com Or if you don't like that idea you can always mail a check to: Eleventh Hour Foal Haven, 1555 Millers Lane, Manakin-Sabot, VA 23103
