While the thrill of riding English and jumping will always be in my blood, a back surgery that was only 50% successful left my Dr and husband begging and pleading with me to give up riding all together, I managed to satisfy their fears by converting and retraining my TB to western pleasure, it was not an easy task but my determination impatience allowed me two keep my joy of riding and my horse!
I've been involved with horses my whole life my Non-blood (adopted) family showed QH while I grew up with top of the line expensive horses, showing for AQHA points, those horses belonged to my aunts and uncles my father could only afford the unwanted meat market destined horses so my own horses were always nuts or had something wrong with them maybe thats where my love for saving the unwanted started from. Fast forward to now.. a dream was to one day have my horses on my land at my home where I could see them and enjoy their beauty 24/7 dream come true 8 years ago my husband and I bought a home with enough land for 2 horses. Ive owned my 17.2 hand TB mare for 11 year she's now 16 years old. I outbid the white tuxedo man she was being sold for meat. Illegal but sadly still happens everyday in auction houses. The white tux man didnt like me I was determined he not buy a single horse that day I've seen this man and know what he does many many times I dis like him and he knows it!! This mare had something about her that spoke to me she wasn't show stopping beautiful with tons of markings shes just a Sorrel, I can't explain the attachment I felt or why I just knew I had to have her and the bay mare she was paired with which had such a strikingly beautiful face all of her personality could be seen in her face this mare was her sister. Both born on the same farm to grow together be raced together and now to be shipped to their death together OVER MY DEAD BODY! Winning that bid was like winning the lotto I worried that I had made a mistake I could bring these 2 home and they could turn out to be crazy or even kill me. Surprisingly they turned out to be wonderful horses 8 years ago 2 weeks after moving them from a barn we boarded at to our new home I lost the bay made to a snake bite to her joint that got infected. Infection in her joint capsule would require surgery and her outcome was bleak. I needed to do what was best for her and put her down, she gave me 8 wonderful years and I still miss her today the hand made oil painting of her my father had done for me hangs in my living room reminding me of her everyday. Sassy has done well being an only child now, she has been my rock may times during life's bumps and hard times I've sat on her back star gazing talking to her like she was a qualified therapist and she has never seemed to mind and never complained about me crying on her shoulder she's not just my horse she's my friend a family member.
