- Riding Instructor
I've only been riding for several decades, but I've had a variety of experiences. I done wilderness mountain riding in Wyoming, horse packed along part of the Oregon Trail, and helped move cattle over the Continental Divide. I've also taken classical riding lessons in Portugal on Lusitano stallions. One of the instructors was a master rider with the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art.

I've attended various clinics and read dozens of books written by numerous authors on various equestrian topics spanning several centuries. I've ridden scores of horses of various breeds and no breed at all. I've tried out various methods and experimented while trying to pay close attention to how the horses responded.
Horses have taught me much and so have my students. I've learned that, if I can be misunderstood, I will be misunderstood. So, I've tried to learn a variety of ways to explain the same things. I've also learned how to adapt my methods to students with different needs including one woman with Parkinson's disease.
Throughout my riding and teaching experience, I've learned that horse's will respond better to lighter cues than to grosser ones if they understand what is desired. I tried to work with the horse's natural movement to get what I want.
I maintain two web sites about horses and riding. I've written and illustrated one book on riding and am working on another. I also hope to come out with some videos to help people ride better. I care about horses and seek to teach others to ride in a way which shows that they care too.
