In my riding lesson last night we were working on shoulder in and Blaiz was hopping into the canter when I would ask for more bend. Jaime got on him to work some things out with him. It was so funny to watch because Jaime was making him go honestly on the aids and do active transitions. Blaiz was getting quite mad at her, but since he never bucks or rears with a rider he was just hopping up and down and swinging his butt into the wall. Jaime just kept driving him forward and when he tried to canter in the shoulder in she said, "Fine, you can canter, so long as you stay in shoulder-in." In the end she got a beautiful shoulder in and his canter was round, active, and three beated. Blaiz is definitely not the kind of horse to keep a grudge, and he happily tried to rub his head on her shoulder when she got off.

My mom works with a woman who has always wanted a horse but her parents never got her riding lessons or anything, so now she's bought a small arabian mare. Not the smartest thing in my opinion, considering this mare is very dominant and disrespectful and she really knows nothing about horses. Right now the mare is in Colorado but she's coming here as soon as she has a place to board her. I'm hoping I can work with the mare, tune her up, and teach Lydia the basics of riding. I'd be a lot cheaper that the trainers around here! She's not green, she's just knows if your scared of her and will totally take advantage of you. She'll literally walk all over you. There's not many trainers around here who do groundwork stuff. But there's no telling when Lydia will be able to move her here from Colorado because her previous owner is being very difficult.

Blaiz is doing great. I've switched him to Triple Crown Lite, so no more sweet feed for him! We are planning to do two weekend shows and two or so schooling shows. At this point we really don't know. The September CSDEA has their big dressage championship show and there will be exhibition and quadrille rides at the end for fun, so the Wickander Team is trying to find something to do. We've a got a whole mix of horses, a big westphalian, Blaiz, a quarter horse, a Percheron cross, a pony, and a saddlebred.
Jaime has another foal on the way, and I would do anything for to buy it. So I'm trying to find a job. I'm open to anything but McDonalds.

That's awesome! Unfortunately, I don't own my standie anymore....LONG story...but she's happily living in a pasture at her breeder's place. I get updates on her all the time. They really are an amazing breed! :)

Merry late Christmas! It's been pretty cold up here, but Blaiz has his super thick blanket and I have my "Michelin Man" winter gear so we stay pretty warm. I'm trying to load videos from our last show of the season. Blaiz did really well. It's amazing how much we both have improved since August. On the down side, when I went to my lesson on Monday night Blaiz was lame. As soon as I started trotting he was limping. It wasn't too bad, and neither my trainer or me could find and heat or swelling. On Tuesday the farrier came out to trim all the horses hooves and he didn't find any bruises or abscesses or anything else. So I'm giving him a week off and hopefully when I go back this weekend or next Monday he'll be better. If not I'll be giving the vet a call.
Good luck with getting the horse of the year with Meg! I'm sorry to hear you had to sell Blaiz's mom, but it sounds like she'll be in a good home.
I'll try to get you some videos soon.

We got 64% on our intro test and placed second. The winner beat us by 10%.

My Christmas was very good. I got a new saddle, a jumping one. It was to cold almost all December so I didn't go riding very much. Blaiz must have had a nice break because now he is very responsive and willing. We have been working on balancing the canter.
I have been to Florida, last summer. I thought it was very nice. I stayed in Orlando where all the theme parks are. It was a bit too hot and humid for my taste. I would imagine it would very nice in the winter. My mom just got back from a vacation to Florida. She said the weather was great, very nice compared to the cold winter.
      Have fun in Florida!

Horses keep me going. They aren't all easy, but if everything were easy one wouldn't learn anything. I give lessons and I train horses. I still take lessons myself whenever I get a chance as I don't believe one can know everything. I also learn from my students. I've learned the most from them and the horses I think. I think it is important to love what you do and let me tell you I love this.

I also started Bevin's Digital Wonderland at www.bevinsdigitalwonderland.com. That is where you will find my photography. I love taking pictures and editing them into art, however I can do realism too. I am for hire for commissioned work if anyone is interested.
